Subject: [Traditional Zarathushtris] Protest
Dear Dolly, Homi, Framroze, Jal,
I am very pained and disappointed to know that there are
plans to not only have Ali Jafarey as a speaker at the W.Z.C. but to also honour
him. I do hope this is only a rumour. However if this is true I would like to
lodge my protest in this regard.
There is nothing personal I have against this man nor am I
am I holding out the fact that he is a Muslim against him. There are many other
non-Zarathushti scholars, past and present for whom I have the utmost regard and
respect. However Jafarey is a man who has the audacity to make false and
offending statements about our Holy scriptures, ridicule our customs and
traditions, assume titles like ratu and mobed for himself and
generally make a nuisance of himself with some degree of success in influencing
young minds and dividing the community.
I was looking forward to participating in the congress and
also cover the same for the Parsi Press in India. However I am totally put off
now.
I shall be grateful (and so will hundreds of Zarathushtis
in India) if you will kindly reconsider your proposal to invite Jafarey and
insult the community by also felicitating him.
